I'm excited to be part of a movement that offers a new kind of politics: Fusion Party Australia's principles of collaboration, deliberation and process based thinking. And of course, support for humanism/science/tech/civil rights/environmentalism

I love jumping out mid campaign to fix website issues. It's unironically fun. Problem is that Australian government needs less backend technocrats and more front facing politicians with community organiser mindset to do the hard work of building up Australian communities #auspol

At the mobile campaign office in Wentworth this morning. Allegra Spender clearly has big support here, her platform of climate action and government integrity is enough for me to encourage locals to vote for her. Go Allegra! #ausvotes Authorised by K Hunt, FUSION, Mansfield

Big fan of this. Pragmatism doesn't mean "pick a boring centrist policy option". Pragmatism means avoiding perfectionism. You can still make good quality decisions within a pragmatic, rationalist framework

Pics from the debate on Saturday night. Me vs 4 climate change "skeptics" to argue for the reality of climate change in front of an unfriendly audience. Still reckon I managed to change a few minds #auspol #climatechange Authorised by K.Hunt, FUSION, Mansfield

We in Fusion recently attended a Sydney meeting of the Libertarian Party, where they had Prof. Ian Plimer & others challenging #climate change. Me being the Fusion candidate for #Bennelong, I recorded a video reply: youtube.com/watch?v=NQZYty… #auspol ;also: fusionparty.org.au/john_august_be…

In San Francisco for work and was excited to see this local event opposing book bans in the US. Free speech used to be a left wing value as the most effect way to oppose authoritarianism. Censorship such as book bans should never come to Australia #auspol #censorship

Similar story in Australia. Except I'd throw in time spent doing marking, lesson prep, assessment prep, mandatory PD, [unpaid] extracurriculars and more. Of course all this can theoretically be automated or made redundant by AGI, but the broad scope brings increased complexity

Effective algorithmic decision making will: - Make assumptions - Show bias towards simple solutions - Trade off accuracy vs delay - Take chances These aren't concessions though, this is just being rational. We need a more rational strand of politics in Australia today #auspol

An organisation called CitizenGO claiming to speak for "tens of thousands of Australians" has been spamming candidate inboxes about anti-vax, anti-abortion, pro-religious cookery. Unfortunately their spam has given us all their names and emails. What should we do with them?

This weekend for PPAU National Congress 2025, I interviewed Vinay Orekondy, founder of the Australian Progressives. Our conversation touched on these topics and more with a focus on civics, democracy, voting, community building and the future of American/Australian politics
