Nate Joseph The distinction between sound-to-print and print-to-sound is immaterial as long as the phonics programme (a) is teaching phonemes in relation to letters (i.e. not oral only), and (b) includes plenty of spelling as well as decoding.
Why have books disappeared from many ELA curricula? Some curricula have no books – and strangely, key curriculum influencers don’t seem to care. Our latest, from Karen Vaites:
‘One would imagine Wonders is an unpopular, poorly-regarded curriculum. Not so much. The Center for Education Market Dynamics suggests it has nearly 20% of the elem. market, and it’s in the top 3 programs in CA, FL, & TX. It also earns top reviews and most states have put it on their curriculum lists.’ 🧵
