NEW: Don't believe the absurd claim that passing Amendment 2 will increase teacher pay. Data shows teachers make thousands of dollars less in states with private school vouchers.

The last of the child care stabilization funds approved through the pandemic have ended, putting into question what the future of fed investment will now be. Tonight, the VP candidates take the stage & we'll be watching to see if they touch on the issue: 19thnews.org/2024/09/vance-…

“The pandemic did not cause our child care crisis, it revealed our child care problem.” Louder for the folks in Congress 📣📣📣 texastribune.org/2024/10/01/tex…

JD Vance says the problem with child care is that we have way too few people to provide that care. I can say for sure, as someone who works with those people, that they are here. They just can’t survive on the wages they earn. #VPDebate2024 #CareCantWait #WinningWithWalz

I want to be clear. Passing federal paid leave is not a mandate forcing businesses to run and pay out of pocket. It is a program administered by the federal government and in many ways, it is a business support, particularly for small business. It’s good for all bottom lines.

New! 🚨 We American Immigration Council published new estimates of the costs of mass deportations. We find: - Mass deportations would cause GDP to drop by 4.2-6.8%, more than the Great Recession. - The annual cost to arrest, detain, process, and remove 1 million people would be $88 billion.

New survey shows people have a strong preference for living in states w/ paid leave, with a 10:1 majority in favor. 2/3 believe companies should offer paid leave regardless of state laws, and 67% think companies should support national paid leave policies. brnw.ch/21wNnVI

YES. Faith-based child care is already an option, and would continue to be in Dem proposals. From the Bipartisan Policy Center: bipartisanpolicy.org/download/?file…

I'm guilty of getting sucked into talking about immigration and deportation as an economic issue but in reality at its core it's about human rights, empathy & society that values every person equally & aspires to raise the standard for each of us. Don't fall for the false choice.

This is a huge shame. Organizations like NAMI are the kind that should be getting state funding to assist with the mental health crisis. They have provided invaluable services to my family. sltrib.com/news/health/20…

I am begging someone to make a rational case for how one can be simultaneously worried that too few people will cause civilizational collapse and also that immigration is our biggest problem because we have too many people.

I must agree with this. I really hate the rise of Trunk or Treat. Sterile, soulless practice that exists because people fear their neighbors. We have to get back to being comfortable with knocking on our neighbors’ doors. This is how we build and preserve community!

It is good, actually, for children to be raised by a community of adults and peers with different strengths. Relying on two adults to be everything to their children is a recipe for the very type of burnout that makes for the “checked out” parents everyone complains about.
