This month’s History Begins at Home theme is ‘What’s left behind’ and the stone carving ‘T’owd Man’ is a great example of this. It’s one of the earliest known representations of a miner, dating back to Saxon times and it’s on show at St Mary’s Church, Wirksworth. #HBAHWhatsLeftBehind.

My warmest congratulations to my predecessor and true champion of Derby, Baroness Margaret Beckett on her induction to the House of Lords. I have no doubt she will continue her lifelong work of formidable service and dedication to our country.

Village lock-ups were once used to hold petty criminals before they were released or sent to trial. ⛓️ They can be found across England and today the majority that survive date from the 18th and 19th centuries. Have you ever spotted one of these buildings?
