A few months ago, I had some questions & concerns about exciting results published in the The Obesity Society journal describing a trial of a personalized phenotype-guided treatment. Today, they published a correction and clarification: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…

I see men telling women to report sexual harassment at work to a trusted senior. I see women saying no man has ever raised their head above the parapet to challenge sexism at work. We don’t know who our trusted seniors are unless you make yourselves known by your actions.

I am so disappointed by the large number of pre-pandemic medical skeptics have now turned into mask/vaccine skeptics. I largely agreed with many of them back in the day. /1

Team it's time to address the Hoeg et al preprint on post-COVID vaccine myocarditis. How am I qualified to speak about myocarditis? I am board certified in paediatric cardiology and currently have patients recovering from this condition. TLDR: They are doing quite well. #MRI

Seems a misled help for extrapolation to future patients, based on the still common confusion of trials with surveys and overinterpretation of subgroup results. Nothing about, say, plausible effect moderators on specific contrast scales or power for subgroup/interaction analyses.

I think @ashtroid22 is getting a little some misguided 'splaining on her initial tweet, so starting a new thread here, but something that came out of it - nice 2-tweet sequence from David Lockhart that captures why I tend to think ITT estimates are most important in most trials.

Not sure about Europe, but this is not how pharma patents really work in the US, since Hatch-Waxman extensions would likely equalize the difference and greatly reduce incentive for speed.

Our new study shows that data availability statements are not very useful; 1670 (93%) authors who indicated that data are available on request either did not respond or declined to share their data with us. Journal of Clinical Epidemiology: doi.org/10.1016/j.jcli…

I have tried to explain to my bus driver that the proper endpoint of the bus route should be my house. In fact, in a survey of my fellow riders, "my house" was the most-selected option for endpoints. And yet, arrogantly, the driver continues to run the bus down the main street.

FDA needs to get out of the booster-promoting business to focus on their mission to evaluate data. CDC is there to promote what they recommend. I can't handle FDA promoting drugs. They'e crossing a line. They're traditional role is informed consent & critical review of the data.

Get good at math and mathematical reasoning, learn to think (self-) critically to become a Data Analyst. The tools are the least important part, and can be picked up later. The tools will never substitute for thought.

OK, quick story (with props to @quoteresearch for doing the work.) In 1977, Newsweek published an cover story called "Seeking Other Worlds" which, in part, profiled Carl Sagan. This article ended with a quote from Carl:

Great e.g of how causal inference fails in obs non-random comparisons. Here-- CABG vs PCI. Classic signal of confounding is early separation of curves. CABG may be better than PCI, but not in the first 6 mo-12 mo Early sep means healthier pts had Surg h't Robert W. Yeh

Our RCT of e-mail alerts to reduce risky opioid prescribing is out today in JAMA Health Forum. We tested e-mails from pharmacists to prescribers & primary care managers to cut opioid interactions. Result: no detected impacts on Rx. Read on for more! jamanetwork.com/journals/jama-…

Since it's #InternationalMensDay, here's a thread of every part of the gynaecological anatomy that is named after a man, with a bit of trivia about each man. Some of the bits are very specific. Before you ask, there are no parts of the gynaecological anatomy named after women...

As you might have heard, the recent fine handed down to Meta for GDPR violations is getting a lot of attention and raising a lot of questions. We dug into the ruling to better understand it and the impact it might have on #ClinicalTrials. continuumclinical.com/news/how-metas…
