Naming the late Amir Abdur-Rahim to the USF Athletics Hall of Fame was the right move, even if it took bending a rule to make it happen tinyurl.com/4hxfbsf7

USF alumni, especially those of us who worked in athletics, can never thank Michael Kelly Demon Mode enough for his work and dedication to growing South Florida sports. I wish you well, Michael -- wish you wouldn't leave(!), but wish you well. 🙏

#OnThisDay in 1865, General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, TX to read Order No. 3, which affirmed the end of slavery in the states of the former Confederacy. This momentous occasion has been celebrated as #Juneteenth — a combination of “June” & “19th” — for over 150 years.

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, culture, and progress. Now more than ever, we have to continue the work of the generations who fought for our freedoms — especially at the ballot box. Make sure you are registered to vote at WhenWeAllVote.org/check.

Check out more #NationalNILDay at bsky.app/profile/gsidem… and LinkedIn later today. Mark the historic date on which college athletes first gained the rights to their own name, image and likeness four years ago. #Celebrate

Some athletes have had it with social media, including Gen Z-- but want to score NIL deals. Can they publicize their NIL business partners without social media? I suggest a few ways on this #NationalNILDay: nilpublicity.com/p/hey-athletes… #NILImpact

Can't blame Gen Z. Social media can feel like a curse, especially when someone controls what's seen and threatens advertisers--both which crater reputations. We need to find other avenues to make social contacts real ones.

The US Olympic & Paralympic Committee sent a letter to lawmakers about the House's SCORE Act, urging them to make amendments to the bill to prevent negative impacts on non-revenue sports. It is clear the USOPC does not believe the Act goes far enough.

Dropping in for a minute to ask good sports (incl y'all in media) people to join bluesky. Fewer headaches and more opportunities to be found there (ill-advised algorithms won't stop your stuff from being seen). Catch me Gil Sideman.bsky.social. Let's be friends again.
