Interested in Stargardt pathogenesis and how RPE altered lipidomic contribute to it? Join me at the "Metabolism of the RPE and retina" session at the upcoming annual ARVO meeting on May 1st, 10.15 AM-11.45 AM EDT. Looking forward to sharing our recent results! #ARVO2021

I couldn’t be more proud of the team. A game changer in #AMD. Using patient #iPSC, a model linking drusen to patient genetics, alternate complement; and discovered drugs to suppress drusen. NEI ARVO Foundation Fighting Blindness BrightFocus Foundation Macular Society AMDF

Hey #arvo2022! Come check out my poster (F0408) on human RPE heterogeneity. We defined 5 RPE subpopulations with different sensitivity to retinal diseases. Thanks to BrightFocus Foundation and all the colleagues in Kapil Bharti lab for contributing to the work!!

Ruchi Sharma (@sharmaruchi29) and I will host an ARVO virtual Special Interest Group on Thursday about correlating genotypes to phenotypes in culture models of macular disease with Aparna Lakkaraju (UCSF), Ruchira Singh (Rochester), and Jennifer Chao (U. Washington).

@sharmaruchi29 Mit Far Our lab breaks down another dogma - ABCA4, whose mutations lead to Stargardt disease, is only important in retinal photoreceptors. Our lab shows ABCA4 is also important in the retinal pigment epithelium. New insights for gene therapy. Outstanding work Mit Far NEI

Researchers from NEI's intramural program developed a new stem cell-based model of Stargardt disease. First direct evidence that Stargardt-related ABCA4 gene mutations affect RPE. IOVS Journal paper: bit.ly/3UaB1tw Mit Far @BhartiLab

So excited to share our recent Nature Methods manuscript with 3D-printed models of #AMD and the eye. This is what I call a disruptive technology. What an awesome job by our team NEI and NCATS

This works validates a study we published in 2021 about an in vitro #AMD model that recapitulates key cellular features of RPE pathology. Observations in a mouse model were reproduced in patient stem cell derived RPE in a masked study. Great work team! @sharmaruchi29 #ipscs

We are proud that the NEI's Diversity In Vision Research and Ophthalmology (DIVRO) summer internship program has been a key stepping stone for many trainees. Great story about one participant: Luke Nelson (Howard University Columbia University) bit.ly/4drG5TJ
