The journalists of Columbia Daily Spectator and WKCR-FM NY are the best of the best; I’m in awe of what incredible work they’re doing while also trying to keep themselves and each other safe. Isabella is running her newsroom better than many professionals.

You may well have the unusual situation of the Columbia student radio station being eligible for a Pulitzer Prize, administered by Columbia University, for the station’s coverage of how Columbia called the cops on Columbia students. (They’re doing an extraordinary job).

The fact that student journalists are having to correct misinformation from mainstream journalists who aren’t even on the ground… The fact that journalists couldn’t get access tonight… … days ahead of press freedom day and the Pulitzer awards…

Our team of 18 student volunteers is immensely proud to be providing this coverage to the Columbia community, NYC, and the world at large. We are incredibly appreciative of your support and understanding.

More on Columbia journalists //Outside media was only allowed on campus for TWO HOURS a day. Student journalists were on the clock 24/7. And even while covering their peers, these journalists upheld high journalistic standards. Columbia Daily Spectator taught me everything I know.

Since the CUNY GAZA Solidarity Encampment started at City College of NY several of my Newmark J-School students were on site providing (during spring break) excellent reporting. Last night’s coordinated NYPD clear-outs at alma mater Columbia University & where I teach The City University of New York are an assault on academic & press freedom.

A casual reminder that while college journalists across the country are doing a phenomenal job with boots-on-the-ground reporting, covering the communities they're engrained in, they are also literally juggling FINALS. Support them, pay them, hire them!! Society of Professional Journalists College Media Association

Asked on MSNBC how many non-students or "outside agitators" were are Columbia, Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani says NYPD terror experts gave two names but "I choose not to give notoriety to people like that." He says NYPD will give more, but they haven't released any data or numbers on non-students

“In the spirit of press freedom, these students worked to document a major national news event under difficult and dangerous circumstances and at risk of arrest.” From The Pulitzer Prizes:

Today is #WorldPressFreedomDay ! Whether its Benny Polatseck saying reporters shouldn't be at the scene of breaking news or the @NYPDNews keeping reporters away so they can record their own propaganda films, you don't have to look far to find threats to a free press.

Hi quick media literacy on breaking news — maybe it’s helpful rn. If you see a variances in coverage, there are many reasons for that. 1) outlets have dif. standards for how to address speculation on crime scenes (ie what to say ocurred before law enforcement confirm) 🧵

I've just come back from #Venezuela 🇻🇪 where I spent 2.5 weeks, witnessing the run-up to the presidential vote, and what was arguably the most outrageous election steal in the modern history of Latin America. I'll share some thoughts below 🧵

Russia calling in bomb threats to polling places in liberal districts across the country should be bigger news right now. They’re interfering for Trump right in the open, right in front of our faces
