Solvay's new research collaboration with Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne marks a great milestone and bright prospects for innovation. Even to a non-scientist visitor, EPFL is a fascinating place, home to amazing people and leading-edge projects.

Solvay's West Deptford, NJ (USA) site hosted 19 teachers from South Jersey for a business overview and plant tour in late July. Solvay co-sponsors the Summer Institute for Educators to give teachers a close-up view of the regional economy.

Interesting program coming up March 8 at the Science History Institute (formerly Chemical Heritage Foundation) in Philly. A symposium on "Exploring the Public Perception of the Chemical Enterprise" will feature panelists from EPA, NRDC, industry and media.

Earnings season looked quite good for much of the chemicals sector. Hope it's a good sign for the foreseeable future.
