Great news from the Indian Ocean! Critical to forecasting monsoons and understanding globally important climate patterns, Indian Ocean moored buoy monitoring system is set to be resurrected after being mostly inoperable since 2020. Read more➡️bit.ly/4cMiGMP

Hi oceanography twitter/X, New preprint! Led by Megan Jeffers - an amazing UQ News undergraduate (!!) student, with Dr Helen Bostock and Bernadette Sloyan, we look at what controls ocean nutrients on the east coast of Oz. Spolier: It's the EAC! egusphere.copernicus.org/preprints/2024…

Need a regional ocean simulation but don't kmow where to start? We've got you covered. Take the pain out of setting up a regional config using MOM6 with our new package!

What happened when MIT stopped paying Elsevier? Not much except they are saving a lot of money. "MIT is interested in collaborating with other libraries to reinvest these funds in community-controlled open publishing initiatives..." sparcopen.org/our-work/big-d…

Interested in marine heatwaves in the East Australian Current? Tomorrow at the AMSA-NSMSS 2024 Conference I'll be presenting our work linking eddy dynamics to prediction. Come along at 12pm, session Session 7.5 in the Harbour view 1 room. With Thomas Moore 🇺🇦 and CSIRO

If you didn't get enough of East Australian Current dynamics AMSA-NSMSS 2024 Conference today, I'll be talking on Thursday in Session 12.2 at 1:45 about EAC sub-meso dynamics and plankton blooms. Work with Dr Amandine Schaeffer just published in JGR. CSIR 🇿🇦

Happy to share this new paper. We identified the impacts of drifting Argo salinity measurements on several widely used gridded ocean data products: 1) an unrealistic global ocean salinification after 2015; 2) increased disagreements between those products after 2015.

A nice summary of why I moved on from ML for PDEs. The literature on weather & climate modeling isn't perfect, but the baselines are certainly much more compelling and easier to find.

New preprint! We look at the continental scale weather regimes that lead to extreme heatwaves in the northern hemisphere. Using a powerful method - Archetype Analysis, we find that only a few patterns can describe many infamous events! arxiv.org/abs/2410.12179

Proud to have contributed to this year's state of the climate. Australia's oceans are warming, with impacts on weather, ecosystems and society.

✨Editor's Pick✨ A new study finds that phytoplankton blooms, often seen near the separation point of western boundary currents, are supported by nutrient supply upwelling and cross-shelf transport. 🔗 eos.org/editor-highlig… #WorldOceanDay #Plankton #Australia AGU's Eos
