It's weird (and wonderful!) to be saying this, but here it is....I've written a book, and it's coming out in April. The Lost Paths, published by Penguin Michael Joseph, is an exploration and celebration of our ancient path network and a call to reclaim what has been lost.

I hope this is only a temporary diversion to the Usk Valley Walk and National Trust Clytha to Bettws Newydd route. Some effort has been made in providing an alternative route, which adds a mile to the walk, but not clear if Monmouthshire / Sir Fynwy intend to fix the right of way itself.

Never, EVER accept the lie that this is somehow a 'forest', just because there are trees: it's not. A real forest is 1,000s of diverse species, all intricately connected. By contrast, what you're looking at here is one face of the death of nature, covering around 10% of Ireland.

Good news! The attempt by the Duke of Beaufort's Somerset Trust to take part of Clyne Common at West Cross for housing development has finally been refused. We're relieved that the unique land has been saved for all to enjoy: bit.ly/4pMQK2j
