Really exciting new report, out today from CESR and USC Rossier, with Amie Rapaport, Anna Rosefsky Saavedra, and Dan Silver. We're focusing on the UnderstandingAmerica data we have on children's mental health and its relationship with school outcomes. (PDF: cesr.usc.edu/documents/A_Na…) A thread:

An historic moment: The first meeting of the "Joint Committee" tasked with revising the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing. These are consensus standards for NCME, AERA, and American Psychological Association. The last revision was published in 2014: testingstandards.net/uploads/7/6/6/…

Measurement Malpractice: Linda Jacobson reports how Oklahoma lowered standards but still reported trends, leading to nonsensical gains. (Researchers, think effect sizes approx. +.11 to +.63). Lesson: OK, be like other states and listen to your TAC (many NCME members serve on TACs).

Charlie always helps me to appreciate the complex dynamics in and around state testing. Here’s his take on the Oklahoma score trends. I also like his reminder that I and NCME are hard to separate this year. So I’d like to coauthor an NCME position paper with him on Taylor Swift.

I am reviewing our list of potential proposal reviewers for #NCME25. What a list! I am overwhelmed by the amount and breadth of expertise in NCME and the spirit of service of the volunteers. Thank you. If you'd like to volunteer, you can do so here: xcdsystem.com/ncme/member/me…

Oklahoma was once among the leaders of the pack in benchmarking proficiency to the higher standard of NAEP. Those days are gone. In my latest for #Testing123blog, I examine the state’s fictional test score gains. assessmenthq.org/2024/08/28/okl… #oklaed #AssessmentHQ

As semesters begin, measurement faculty and students ask: What competencies are foundational? What must we learn to keep learning? This is worthy of debate! We take this on in our NCME Task Force rejoinder, discussing 8 great commentaries (preprint): dash.harvard.edu/handle/1/37379…
