Beware any tax where people say “it’s only a small amount”. Often when you add up those small amounts you end up with an annual bill in the hundreds of millions. It’s possible a tourism tax would tax the cost increases bill for hospitality b/c of government this year to £4bn

Really important. Live venues are such an important part of so many people’s lives. They’re memory factories. And live venues drive spend for everyone. Dinners, drinks etc before going out. Lose the late venues, you get a domino effect economically. UKHospitality Kate Nicholls OBE

Exciting moment. My friend Kate Nicholls OBE stepping up into our new full-time chair role so she can be fully free to engage in the big issues facing the sector and economy. She’s going to be amazing. I will be stepping into the CEO role, filling big shoes as we expand our services

Important to remind ourselves that this was absolutely predicted by the OBR - they guessed 50,000 jobs lost then revised it upwards. Bank analysts had it at 100,000 jobs lost. NICs is a jobs tax- and more than a few people have found the cost of employing them no longer adds up

Watching the spending review from a distance (clash with our UKHospitality conference). Very little in it for hospitality (expected, it’s not a Budget) but hard not to feel looming clouds. It’s expensive stuff. Key is that the Budget doesn’t come back with the bill.

Lovely afternoon at the The BII licensee of the year awards. Big community and localism focus with the nominees. Well done to Three Horseshoes Witney for winning. Big high five to Steven Alton for hosting.
