The point of a startup is to make usable technology for others. When you make software, you have to watch at least 10 people use it. Sit next to them and say absolutely nothing. Force yourself to marinate in the failure of your product design. Every version 1 of any software

A very famous VC once told me: "I've been doing this for 25+yrs and let me tell you: I know little about tech. But I do know people. And I know the best founders are usually people so broken, often from childhood, with a chip on their shoulder so huge, it just won't go away."

"Service as Software" is Silicon Valley's hottest buzzword right now. Everyone's talking about SaaS becoming service providers, but no one's explaining HOW. The answer? After 6 months of research and 100s of startup conversations, we have the answer: Systems of Agents. We're

Never a dull moment in AI. Current market summary: * Big, bigger, biggest: biggest VC round ever (OpenAI), biggest seed round (Safe SuperIntelligence, $1B), biggest acqui-hire (Character, $2.7B), biggest super computer (xAI's Colossus, etc) * Rich valuations all around: NVIDIA

Caught up with some AI startups recently. A two founder team that reached 1.5m ARR and has only hired one person. Another single founder at 1m ARR and will 3x within a few months. The trajectory of early startups is steepening just like the power of the models they’re built on.

There are startups burning $10M a year and have no way to raise a new round that can use AI to become profitable and grow @ 50%/yr compounding. Art Agrawal did exactly this at Jerry and I expect it to save a lot of startups. AI is changing all startups not just new ones.

1/ The 2nd San Francisco gold rush has finally come to an end. Gone is era of walking into a $200K job at 22 and saving a million by 30. For decades, a 70th percentile engineer was guaranteed multiple offers as soon as they interviewed in SF. That era is over.

An interesting, unexpected effect of the AI revolution: big companies seem to be more willing to buy from young founders. I'm not sure why. It could because they expect younger founders to understand AI better (as in fact they do). Or maybe they just need the software more.

SaaS isn’t dead but the build vs buy equation is changing fast. Examples 1) we’re considering building a tool for our team rather than spending $25k/year on an external solution. Seems like we could get mostly there with a weekend build. Added benefits of customization but major

1/ I’m coming to understand it’s not actually possible to significantly inflect someone’s baseline ambition. You can sharpen it, bring it into focus, and harness it—but fundamentally changing how ambitious someone naturally is hard. My job is to recognize the hidden ambition

A year ago, I made a weird bet: that you could raise venture capital to buy boring old businesses—and scale them like tech startups Most the VCs I pitched said their LPs wouldn’t get it Now those same firms are raising billion-dollar funds on this strategy Here's the thesis:
