America has done a great job with enforcing public beach access However, it’s also a world-historic travesty that you can’t just buy a damn iced coffee / beer / hot dog within walking distance of any given beach

A SWAT team threw 30+ grenades into an innocent man’s business while chasing a suspect. L.A. left him with a $60,000 bill. His livelihood was destroyed. A federal court says he’s entitled to $0. Whatever your politics, that’s a travesty.

Bragging about an expensive project that has produced no user benefits and has no viable plan for completion because it created union jobs (i.e. it cost money) reflects a key thing that’s wrong with the Democratic Party today.

An LADWP horror story. I know this developer and feel for what he's had to go through. I've also noted in the past that we have a 176 unit mixed income apartment project on Sunset in Echo Park. DWP was supposed to have electrical power to our project in the Spring of 2024.

Incredible One of the reasons California has failed to conduct adequate wildfire mitigation is b/c of NEPA-weaponizing lawfare from misguided environmental extremists who don't understand forest management 37% of lawsuits are from a single nonprofit ... which is just one woman

Prop 13 makes it so buying a home in California never makes any financial sense. Your property tax will immediately be ~half of your prior rent. Much better to rent from someone who has owned since the 70s and pays nothing.

Meanwhile, the work horse of workforce housing—naturally affordable market rentals and the filtering they drive—disappears, turning California into a neo-feudal state of untaxed landowners and the warehoused, income-restricted proles who serve them. sfchronicle.com/realestate/art…

This is typically a regulatory requirement: design rules from cities require multiple materials and “articulation” of the facade of the building to make you think it’s multiple smaller buildings. Yes it’s dumb.

One of the biggest problems with US cities in general and US transit in particular is that they are run/managed by people who do not like cities in general and transit in particular. Metro Los Angeles Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors

This could be us but you're playing. If you want to see more ships built in America, join the call to cut the red tape and break ground on the Solano Shipyard, sized to become the largest shipyard in the world, 2.5x larger than the biggest shipyard in China:

Bogotá was about half what LA is today (~1% of trips by bike) If we got to 9% traffic would largely disappear. All that’s missing if the infrastructure.

California has had multiple “little old lady annihilates multiple young healthy people” crashes. Mandatory restitution and criminal penalties would pitch the equation towards “maybe I can learn how to use that Waymo app.” Right now, the mechanism driving cessation is tragedy.

Any permit currently handled by other agencies should be filed within DOB Now and reviewed by either DOB staff, or inter-agency roles yet to be created. Relevant e-mail addresses and phone numbers of these other agencies are currently passed between architects like contraband.

So much of modern fire code is based on rent seeking and vibes. It is absolutely worth extra expense and regulation to save lives. But we demand almost zero rigor, evidence or evaluation of trade-offs from fire departments. We need to start pushing back. Hard.
