UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk and UNHCR High Commissioner Filippo Grandi call on the #UK government to reconsider its plan to transfer asylum-seekers to #Rwanda .
New legislation seriously hinders the rule of law in the UK and sets a perilous precedent globally.
I’m quoted here on #RwandaBill and double insistence. This “post-truth”Bill asks Parliament to declare that Rwanda is safe (which it isn’t, yet) and will always be safe (which is obviously unknowable). I expect to be involved (in Lord Hope’s absence) in the final stages tomorrow.
Here at Trades Union Congress launch of the #AIEmploymentBill tonight, even as someone working in this field, I’m struck again by the paucity in our national conversation on how AI/tech already impacts workplaces, esp vulnerable, often invisible, workers facing invisible levels of control.
This is a really impressive and important piece of work from my Cloisters friends and colleagues Robin Allen and & Dee Masters with our Grace, Jon & Trades Union Congress on the new #AI Employment Bill. Highly commended for those interested in #AI and #ukemplaw . 👏🏼👏🏼
#RwandaBill ping pong latest: victory for Lord Hope’s monitoring amendment by 245-208: majority of 37 as against yesterday’s 39. Normally margins reduce as the Bill proceeds: this is a big one.
Please do tune in to Channel 4 tonight at 9pm. Over 3 nights, #Defiance tells the story of British South Asians & the fight against the far right between 1976-1981.
Thank you shaminder nahal Riz Ahmed Rajesh Thind & team for remembering & sharing our memories, our history.

My Financial Times piece on getting our diplomats the sense of purpose, resources, machinery, skills they need to lead UK’s international engagement in a world in flux.
With Moazzam Malik, and drawing on Hertford College, Oxford UCL Policy Lab discussions with experts.

No need to delve into Haya della Torre to be on the side of Relaciones Exteriores : you cannot justify entering the premises of the embassy whatever you think of Jorge Glas. (See Tehran hostages)
