What great investment in our local community. So proud of Labour in Westminster /Westminster councillors record in power since 2022. And with my APPG on Access to Justice hat on, delighted to see help for Paddington Law Centre on this list

Soaring service charges are placing an intolerable strain on leaseholders.

Greater transparency is part of the answer but we need a more fundamental conversation about how we better protect leaseholders, and particularly shared owners, from unreasonable charges.

As the holy month of Ramadan ends and Muslims look forward to Eid al-Fitr, I want to take the opportunity to say Eid Mubarak to all those celebrating.

I hope this day is a chance to gather together, spend time with family and honour the end of a blessed month.

My obituary in the Guardian of our wonderful friend Barrie Taylor who died in February after a long illness. He was a one-off, had a huge impact on all our lives and we will remember him.

Sure Start worked, for children, families and communities. Where was the sense in the Conservatives demolishing it after 2010?

Soaring rents are pushing private tenants to breaking point with huge numbers falling into arrears and at risk of eviction and homelessness.

We need a strengthened Renters Reform Bill with additional protections for tenants against extortionate within-tenancy rent rises.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies research found that where Sure Start offered high levels of service in poor neighbourhoods in England, visits to hospital to treat injuries fell among all children of primary school age, and by a third of all 11-year-olds.
Hardly a failure

Too many of London’s private tenants face insecurity, sky high rents and poor, or even dangerous, housing conditions. They need better options and more support enforcing their rights, like these initiatives from Sadiq Khan Mayor of London

PM threatens to leave ECHR over Rwanda Plan. His threat undermines UK - human rights only if not too difficult politically. Time not on his side to exit ECHR. But he’s PM and puts UK’s commitment to human rights in doubt. Shame on him.

.The Labour Party’s message to David Cameron and Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives is clear. Publish the legal advice now.

If it says there is a clear risk that UK arms might be used in a serious breach of international humanitarian law, it's time to suspend the sale of those arms.

The horrifying deaths of John Chapman, James Henderson and James Kirby only deepen the serious concerns about Israel’s compliance with humanitarian law.

The government should publish its legal advice on arms exports. If David Cameron has received it, he must act on it.

There will need to be a public inquiry looking at the regulatory failings, asset stripping over decades and how the infrastructure has been allowed to decay to the point of collapse. This shames London and the UK theguardian.com/business/2024/…
