A Fijian Parliament staff is a primary contact of a positive case and was at work this week during the “virtual” Parliamentary Sitting, yet the PM, AG and MPs who attended in person have not been told to isolate for 14 days – they have only been told to “stand-down” for 4 days.

By convention, all those who arrive on our shores are isolated for 14days to ensure they are COVID free. This 14days isolation period has been applied to primary and secondary contacts of all positive cases. This ‘double standard’ is cause for concern. One rule must apply to all.

My response to comments by the Minister for Health Dr I Waqainabete in Parliament on Wednesday 2nd June 2021, that “front liners are not super spreaders” of the COVID-19 virus.

We support the frontliners but my concern is that the alarming trend that front liners appear to be over-represented as a percentage of new cases compared to the rest of the population. The disciplined forces are now making up the majority of both new cases.
