Your ASPIRE social studies teachers at GHS have been setting up classrooms and lessons, happily anticipating your arrival! We thought you might like a quick tour! Here is the room of Ms. Lackey (kimberly lackey), our AP Human Geography teacher (and fabulous Cheer coach)!

Pulled off 5 mock Constitutional Conventions in a row in class today, pacing in front of the room while arbitrating debates and lecturing on content. Out of curiosity, I checked my phone, and -having gone nowhere but work today- I had 12,000 steps. 😳

The first AP Gov test of the year is in the bag! Students tested over constitutional principles, as well as foundational docs such as Federalist #10 and landmark court cases such as US v. Lopez. Overall, they performed excellently, and next week we’ll be shifting to AP Micro!

My APUSH and AP Gov kids didn’t know they were getting the gift of *knowledge* for Labor Day!

In 4 rounds, APUSH students used supplied crafting materials to build 4 distinct monuments to the muckrakers and activists of the Progressive Era! Thanks Play-Doh and pipe cleaners, Upton Sinclair, John Muir, Jane Addams and Frances Willard can finally be memorialized!

Wife and kids: “We’re going out of town for the weekend. You good?” Me to the Sonic cashier 12 minutes later: “I’ll have 2 corn dogs, mozzarella sticks, and a brownie blast, please.” 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ Thanks, GC-SAGE !

AP US History students travelled back in time to fulfill the roles of muckrakers and yellow journalists, creating front page stories reflecting our course content!

Because anti-federalists demanded it, right AP Gov?

Students balanced the Roaring 20’s newly minted obsession with “image” against the (also new) concept of buying on credit, as they took a date out for jazzy night on the town!

ASPIRE APUSH enjoys ending our Roaring Twenties Unit in style (one of my favorite days of the year)!

How do you lighten the topic of political ideology in today’s charged times, while still ensuring that students learn the policies and socialization agents in the AP Gov curriculum? Why, with a game of Ideological Twister, of course! Much fun (and learning) was had by all!

ASPIRE Gov/Econ students hustled into a position where we were 3 days ahead on content before Thanksgiving, so we celebrated with a Charlie Brown-style feast and games the day before the break! I contend that -if occasional- this is time well spent!
