I love nature and wildlife, and I try to base my designs on real-world species, often inspired by various references during the initial sketches to get an accurate representation of the different owl types — but at the same time I always try to achieve a unique look and style.

With only 1 colour available, it often involves a lot of chess with pixels. I usually try to balance more unique natural chaotic patterns with classic dithering techniques. I think about the pieces as old portraits of the noble knights, and made special frames for the pictures.

Each knight bears his name, location, special name in owl language, ancient artifact, coat of arms, and is based on various archetypes deeply rooted in psychology, representing different universal patterns.

I’m now mainly focusing on my ongoing series, but I have also planned some new ones, that will focus on some different aspects of this mythical world of nocturnal birds.
