The Permanent Secretary Antonia Romeo is now on stage as our first key speaker. She thanks HMCTS colleagues for all their efforts and reiterates how critical their work has been in delivering justice for those who need it. #HMCTSAwards

✔️Three bills in the #KingsSpeech ✔️Two new justice ministers ✔️And one appearance from Ian Wright! Here’s November in UK justice #ThisMonthInJustice #16DaysofActivism

The greatest honour of my life to walk into Ministry of Justice as the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice yesterday. Before politics, I was a lawyer. I understand the deep challenges facing our justice system. But there is so much we can do. The hard work starts now.

Yesterday we welcomed Shabana Mahmood MP to Ministry of Justice as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice. A former barrister, she is the second woman and first Muslim in history to hold the position of Lord Chancellor.

Great to see a jam-packed Ministry of Justice atrium to hear our new Lord Chancellor & Secretary of State Shabana Mahmood MP . A major focus on how the whole justice system can deliver for the country - & on collaboration, tech, & a one team approach.

Today, Shabana Mahmood MP was sworn-in as Lord Chancellor at the Royal Courts of Justice. She made her oath in the presence of the Lady Chief Justice and other senior judges, Attorney General, Solicitor General and leading members of the legal professions.

Dame Antonia Romeo will be leaving the Ministry of Justice to become Permanent Secretary of Home Office. We all thank Antonia for her outstanding leadership over 4 years at the MoJ. @CEOHMPPS Amy Rees will be interim Permanent Secretary. More: gov.uk/government/new…

Antonia has been an extraordinary leader of the MoJ for four years - and I have been fortunate to have her at my side for the last eight months. Many congratulations indeed Antonia Romeo, the Home Office is lucky to have you!

Delighted to welcome Antonia Romeo to the Home Office as our new Permanent Secretary. She brings extensive leadership experience from across government to this crucial role. I look forward to working with her to deliver the government’s Plan for Change.
