Smart was a Lakers trade target before last year’s deadline as well, but nothing ever materialized. Lakers had remained aggressive this offseason in their pursuit of experienced veteran players, and they get a former DPOY in Smart to add to their backcourt.

Something I noted on the show last night is in this clip: Smart’s reputation as a defender allows for the stop here. A lot of the guys the Lakers have employed don’t have that rep and, as such, it’d be free throws for Sacramento instead.
