We're taking a trip down memory lane to see how we used to get things around Antarctica Which of these historic modes of transport is your favourite?

We take our waste management seriously. Last week, volunteers sorted five days' worth of general waste and recycling that returned from Scott Base. All our waste comes back to Aotearoa New Zealand for processing, and this is just one way we ensure it goes to the right place.

The Captain Scott memorial statue. The statue was carved by Scott's widow, Kathleen Scott a few years after he perished on the return journey from the South Pole. Unveiled in 1917, it toppled off its plinth in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake but was reinstated in 2017.

Nacreous clouds, also known as polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs) are rare, iridescent clouds that form over polar regions during winter. They're best observed during civil twilight, when the Sun is between 1° & 6° below the horizon. They're often more spectacular than auroras!

Do you like Lego? How about penguins? We partnered with the @christchurchbrickshow to develop a cute penguin lego set! We only just managed to put one together, but we love it. What do you think?

How big is Antarctica? We support science from Cape Adare to KIS, which is roughly the same distance as Cape Reinga to Bluff! Antarctica is about 50 times larger than Aotearoa New Zealand! Does this surprise you? Or is it about the same size as you thought?

We're counting down to winfly! August marks the return of the C17 for a few quick flights to the ice. Some folks have seen unbelievable auroras on their way south. FUN FACT - The pilots often land with night-vision goggles! 📸: Iain Miller & Tom Arnold

Do you know anyone who went to Scott Base in 2000/2001? The 00/01 team are organising a reunion in Christchurch next month! There are still a few people who can't be located so if you know anyone from around this time, please tag them in the comments so they can be invited!

Discovery Hut through the years! Build in 1902, Captain Robert Falcon Scott's first hut has stood the test of time. Thanks to some remarkable conservation work by @antarcticheritage, we hope it can be appreciated for many more decades in the future.

The Scott Base team achieved a milestone this week by installing the @universityofotago SIMS (Sea Ice Monitoring Station) on the sea ice 4km away from Scott Base. It'll measure the ice over the next few months before being removed. 📸: Hue Tran (that one evil mii.tran.uk)

Swipe through to see how one of Antarctica's most iconic buildings has changed through the years! About 40km from Scott Base, Shackleton's Hut is a popular fam trip destination (when the sea ice allows).

Small Seal Saturday! As the team down south are still in 24/7 darkness, here's a collection of photos from the Antarctic summer when Scott Base fills with new life. Pups appear out the front of Scott Base around mid-October and provide endless entertainment for the team!

Your first thought when you hear "Antarctica" is probably ice or penguins. Did you know there's lichen and moss all around the continent? These floras have uniquely adapted to thrive in the cold, dry, and bright environment, including the ability to photosynthesize at sub-zero.
