Last summer, my son, then 9, swam in an English river and suffered 6 whole days of diarrhoea and vomiting. It was very worrying. His friend was almost hospitalised. And now we’re told the only way we can have more houses is by sacrificing any hope of cleaning up our waterways.

So true, we can keep demonising breeds & killing dogs but we will never solve the problem of dangerous dogs, without focusing on the owners

This is pure political game-playing from Sunak, but all of us will pay the price. Delaying energy efficiency measures will mean higher bills & more emissions. Delaying green investment will mean fewer jobs & less prosperity. Delaying petrol ban will mean dirtier air. What a farce

"When did they [the government] announce that we were all going to have seven bins and that they were going to tax meat?" Krishnan Guru-Murthy asks former Environment Secretary George Eustice if Rishi Sunak is claiming to cancel policies that have never existed.

📢There's a brand new record for Britain's highest altitude tree! We found it at 1221m on Ben Nevis, & incredibly it's a #Willow (Grey Willow; Salix cinerea). This tenacious little plant has surpassed Sitka Spruce at 1210m. #HighMountainTrees BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland Jim McIntosh

Really important work by my The Guardian colleagues, diligently reporting on the women allegedly killed by men this year (allegedly bc the men in question are charged not convicted). Stories often passed up by newsdesks as they're so common as to be 'mundane' theguardian.com/uk-news/ng-int…
