This military-controlled "reporting" trip managed to tell us nothing new, while still getting 11 people arrested. She also justified it by saying no "international media" has been allowed in, dismissing the work of all of us who have been risking our safety since day one.

I did criticize your recent reports about Myanmar. I never knew I am a white male academic. 🤔🤔🤔 For the record, I AM NOT criticizing you. Do your homework, btw.

Many people more eloquent than me have responded to this tweet, but since I’m a journalist myself + Burmese, female & NOT white, I feel I should point out to Clarissa why some of us have an issue with her trip & respond to this tone-deaf tweet. (THREAD) #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar

CNN reporter Clarissa Ward’s shallow coverage of the Myanmar coup, her endangerment of her sources and her embarrassing rationalisations erode journalistic ethics and perpetuate the notion that brown people need a white saviour. Mine for New Naratif newnaratif.com/journalism/eve…

There's been criticism lately of journalists who have fled Myanmar, so here are some numbers for context. 87 journalists have been arrested since the coup started. That's about 1 out of every 40. Over 5,000 civilians have been arrested. That's about 1 out of 10,000.

🚨 DANNY UPDATE 🚨 We received word late last night that Consular Access for Danny was (finally) granted! He was able to speak on the phone with the US Embassy in Yangon and while we still don't know much, by all accounts, he seems to be in good form and unharmed. Thank goodness.
