Online Today! Looking beyond the blood...our review of mucosal immune responses in COVID19. Already out of date because it was submitted in Nov, but it's a living review! We will be updating as the field develops. academic.oup.com/ooim/advance-a…

Last year, a simple tweet started the 1st #openscience global effort to design affordable, straight-to-generic #COVID19 antivirals from scratch. Today, the COVID Moonshot project has received key funding from Wellcome to put these drugs into trials. bit.ly/3o8T6LC

London Lab COVID Moonshot The COVID Moonshot project just received key funding from Wellcome to put the most promising drug candidates into clinical trials. We hope the first drugs will be available at the end of 2022. All our results will be publicly shared and free for anyone to use. (3/3)

Breaking News: Pfizer said its pill to treat Covid-19 had been found to be highly effective at preventing severe illness among at-risk people. It appears to be more effective than a similar offering from Merck, which is awaiting U.S. authorization. nyti.ms/2YhCyGE

Okay, final tweet of the year. Excited to show our lead series is potent against Alpha, Beta and Omicron variants! This is why antivirals are complementary to vaccines in getting us out of this pandemic. A core principle behind COVID Moonshot is that an open-science approach will accelerate antiviral discovery. With this weekend's release of a new preprint from SHIONOGI describing an extraordinary new noncovalent oral antiviral, this hypothesis has been validated!

My friends and colleagues Enamine Ltd 🇺🇦 in Kyiv are outstanding members of the COVID Moonshot team. They are part of our effort to deliver safe, effective, generic anti-virals to treat COVID-19 globally, but their safety, that of their families & all Ukrainians matters more.

Reinfection data! Study tracking >300k people found reinfections were rare (<500/month) until Nov '21, but increased to >4500/month in Jan '22. 19% of 1st infections, 17% of 2nd, & 25.9% of 3rd were hospitalized. (But only PCR, no home tests counted). medrxiv.org/content/10.110… 1/

I cry for England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿—#BA2 hospitalizations have now exceeded old #Omicron’s peak—which were **merely 3 months ago**. So much for stupid mass infection natural herd strategy. This is @borisjohnson & Sajid Javid’s horrible British 🇬🇧 exceptionalism. HT Antonio Caramia #COVID19

I pinch myself, but it stays unreal... 2 years ago we cobbled up something in desperation, and now we get to be one of the AViDD Centers! XChem is deep in the mix: new methods, piles of open data. All groups are recruiting, check asapdiscovery.org/jobs/, or get in touch.
