Good morning to everyone but especially people who are invited to peer review, unfortunately must decline, but still take the time to suggest other reviewers for the journal to contact. You are seen 🙏

Update: it’s LDOC and I’m still glad to be here! As an alum who loved undergrad courses at UNC, I’m so grateful I get to pay that experience forward. One of my students said: “No doubt throughout the rest of my career, I will think back to this class.” 😭 y’all UNC Sociology

Admin got police to start arrests nearly 3 hours ago, are closing campus buildings, and have yet to email campus with literally any information or transparency. They don’t want UNC students, faculty and staff to know what they’re doing because they know it’s unacceptable.

Americans' ahistorical understanding of the US' racist history runs so deep that being historically accurate will have people believing you're a conspiracy theorist.

UNC’s excuse of protecting students’ right to go to class is another example of the oppressor faking concern for the public (eg HB2.) As grad & prof, no, don’t use me & act like the encampment hindered my work (it didn’t) - my actual concern is $ in war and campus surveillance.

Very sweet post. What actually happened is that these guys followed the police, used them as protection, called a woman the n word, beat up a kid the police had already knocked over, and then followed a known local white nationalist organizer who led them to get the flag back up

If universities truly wanted to send police to student gatherings due to safety concerns and lawlessness, they would break up frat parties that have the highest levels of sexual assault, underage drinking, and illegal drug use on campus. But it’s not really about that.

This week, UNC Sociology celebrated the illustrious career of our own Professor Howard Aldrich. Thank you, Howard Aldrich, for the many contributions you have made through your research, teaching, and service at UNC-Chapel Hill and beyond!

Have a group project on your syllabus this semester? It's great for teaching collaboration, but it can also be ripe with racism and terrible outcomes for students of color if you don't sufficiently support groups. Learn from my mistakes (and research) 🧵
