you're not getting put into a camp. there are groups who are in real danger of getting put into camps and they're sleeping on benches and under awnings, and you're not gonna say much of anything when they're carried away.

As an agent and an author, I implore agents to please wait to send rejections for a day or two. As someone who received a rejection today, I was already gutted from the election. Even if you’re from the UK and other countries, please keep this in mind. You can wait one day.

All my books—ALL OF THEM—are about queerness and alienation. All of them. Publishing: the ball is in your court. Buy all the marginalized books, ESPECIALLY by PoC and queer authors likely to be banned. Give them no choice. Make it all the books. Effect change.

For those querying for the first time this year, here are a few things to remember: - Do NOT sweat about miniscule typos/mistakes. - Only query when your book is READY - Treat agents with respect and remember you deserve to be treated the same. - Stay positive! You got this 💕

Received two query rejections today ... 15 rejections makes 37.5% rejection rate and so far haven't heard back from the other 30 I've sent out. If you ever wanna try rejection therapy, become an author. 😭

so many of the rejections I’ve gotten have been kind and motivating … but it would be nice if I even got one request out of the 40 queries I’ve sent 🥲 The general consensus seems to be that a book about suicide is just not marketable but I won’t give up.

Last year, at 43 years old, I returned to the writing/publishing dreams I abandoned in my 20s. I queried a book about a main character in her 40s, and received three offers of rep in under a month. Do not let anyone convince you that it’s “too late” and you “missed your chance”.

Writers, remember: Showing up is half the battle (if not the whole battle). The ones you admire on bestseller lists are there because of talent, yes, but also because they've put in the work—draft after draft, session after session. Keep showing up. The progress will follow.
