We won't fix the economy without fixing childcare.

Looking forward to talking to Liverpool City Region about what combined authorities can do to improve the sector in their areas.

Labour have just published their plan to 'power up Britain' (yes, they've actually gone for it), which sets out some more detailed thinking on their approach to devolution, industrial strategy, local government, among many other things. Five things I found interesting...🧵

Labour’s direction has been very influenced by important work going on in the think tanks for several years led by the brilliant Carys Roberts IPPR Miatta Fahnbulleh Charlotte Alldritt Centre for Progressive Policy to name just a few of the standout contributors. More work to do but it’s coming together 👏

Great to be in Liverpool today for our Inclusive Growth Network roundtable with Steve Rotheram and national/regional partners on what a national government can learn from the city region's innovative approach to recruitment, retention and workforce development in the childcare sector 👶👨‍🍼

This ought to be a silly question.

In the longer term, most of us need to either pay more tax or adjust our expectations of the state.

Special to be at Marvin Rees final . Big challenges but also significant opportunities, a spirit of collaboration and disruption, and a record of real delivery through Bristol City Office that needs to continue long into the future.

CPP's analysis shows that lack of access to flexible working and suitable childcare act as a barrier to women’s participation in the labour market.

Rosie Fogden argues why The Labour Party cannot afford to stay silent on childcare and early years policy.

Great to be at the City Gathering today and to hear Annabel Smith share from her experience at Centre for Progressive Policy and Inclusive Growth Network. Productivity and inequality are intertwined and need a coordinated approach otherwise we won’t solve either

Plenty of smart people have been building a credible case for why place leadership needs to be a priority for government for decades, as the 2007 Lyons review shows. Consensus has been built, now it's time to get on and do the work.

Reducing NI contributions at a time when public services are crumbling all around us not only a counterproductive political gimmick, but also fails take into account tax rises elsewhere (i.e. to council tax to try and stop local govt from collapsing)
