Even if the penicillin allergy is confirmed, oral ampicillin or amoxicillin desensitization is safe and effective and allows the use of the antibiotic least likely to cause other problems. Alternatively just select any cephalosporin.

It was great to be at #WAOBSACI2022 last week. There was lots of clinical information and presentations on research but also plenty of helpful content for families living with food allergy. See thread 🧵👇

Are steroid sprays the answer for all #rhinitis? Cochrane corner: Intranasal corticosteroids for non-allergic rhinitis pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35502870/ Delighted to be a part of this with Ian Gregory, guidance from Dr Boyle. Look for the LAR (local allergic rhinitis) in the NAR!

My message to every mother of a child who has food allergies: It is not your fault. We don't fully know why some children develop food allergies but maternal diet during pregnancy or breast feeding has no impact. #FoodAllergyAwarenessWeek #MothersDay pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33250376/

AVOID benadryl & other 1st generation antihistamines! These are outdated & have inferior efficacy/safety compared with 2nd generation antihistamines #AllergyCare Learn more with this great resource: aacijournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

Great to speak on BBC Scotland #lunchtimelive yesterday about #antihistamine (piriton) shortage. Chlophenamine is not the best ah to use for #hayfever and #allergy. Use a nondrowsy such as cetirizine, loratidine or fexofenadine. (I'm at 56mins) bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

The downfall of the allergy specialty is not due to inability to get people skin tested or allergy bloodwork fast enough... it's: 1) Lack of utilization of oral food challenges 2) Improper/over testing 3) Inaccurate interpretation of sensitization Treat the patient not the test

#OAASEF2022 Harms of panel testing for foods - one study of 132 patients with eczema had panel testing and thus food elimination - lead to sensitization and then true food allergy in 36% of kids who were tolerating those foods previously! Don't test to foods one tolerates!

Dr. Ellis (@dranneellis) 's Twitter Profile Photo

#OAASEF2022 This happens in EoE as well. Tell patients that there is a risk of sensitization if fully eliminate a food - may be safest to allow some ingestion once a week to maintain tolerance

Reiterating for added emphasis… FOOD ELIMINATION Led to SENSITIZATION And then TRUE FOOD ALLERGY in 1/3 of patients That number is startling 😮😮😮

2/ Grant an immediate exemption for doctors to public sector pension rules which are currently forcing them to retire in their fifties in alarming numbers.
