Kids need books to keep them creatively engaged over the summer! So I’m giving away 50 copies of my latest activity book, Give This Book a Cover — one set of 25 here, one on Instagram. If you can get these books into kids’ hands, RT this tweet and follow me to enter to win them!

Rep. Pamela Stevenson: "We spent more time in the spring on bills about cows and animals that we're spending on this very important thing, protecting what we think is our greatest resource: children."

Parents, even if your child was not directly impacted by this morning’s tragedy, kids talk. They hear more than you realize. I am going to post some resources in this thread about supporting kids through trauma. It feels like the only productive thing I can do.

There are community leaders who are asking the right questions and making important points. These are not the same people simply calling for more police. It’s past time we listened to the former and not the latter. Courier Journal

Ok, let’s not call it Critical Race Theory. We won’t even call it “Black History.” Instead, let’s accept the premise they propose. So, how does American history look if K-12 social studies & history teachers don’t teach kids about racism white supremacy. A thread.

Troubled by kids' books about tough topics? Focus on fixing the world so kids don't have to live tough topics - not on banning books. Books are often the only survival guides and therapists kids in crisis have access to. #FReadom

Quick question for Kentucky social studies teachers: How many primary source documents do you use in a typical school year? Rough estimates are fine.

Children should not be scared to go to school. Educators should not be scared to go to school. Parents should not be scared to send their children to school. Children should not need to learn to hide, keep quiet, barricade a door, take cover. This should not be our normal.
