"The unusable PPE that was burnt was enough to hire 200,000 nurses. Why aren't taxpayers more angry at being robbed by all of the above?" Why? Right wing media 24/7: "Look over there at the asylum seekers in hotels!" 👇🏾

The NHS is falling apart, yet doctors are blocked from caring for patients. In 2025, 20,000 more applied than there were available training posts to become Consultants/GPs. Doctors are being shut out because the Government won’t fund enough speciality training & post CCT places.

🚨 Elon Musk is now the first person in history worth $500 billion. For context: A UN study said ending world hunger would cost just $6 billion. He could’ve solved it 83 times, but chose to buy Twitter, pump Dogecoin, and lay off workers instead. Welcome to late-stage

They have fired the staff of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report and 70 Epidemic Intelligence Service officers, who are disease detectives that respond to outbreaks. I cannot emphasize enough how dangerous it is to dismantle our disease surveillance infrastructure.

The concentration of wealth in the hands of a few isn't just bad for our economy. It's corrosive to our democracy. When the wealthy and well-connected control our political system, regular people don't have a voice. The result? The demagoguery and corruption we're seeing now.

A quarter of the average UK energy bill last year was profit for the big energy companies. Meanwhile, almost three million households in England suffer fuel poverty. No one should be choosing between heating and eating while energy companies rake in billions.

Millennials and some genXers often talk about our nostalgia for the 90s. This maybe annoying to other generations, but in the 90s, the consensus was Nazis are BAD, and we were told if we worked hard, we could afford at least what our parents had. That isn’t our reality now.

“How long can governments live beyond their means?” asks The Economist. The answer is simple: a govt that issues its own currency can’t “live beyond its means”. It creates the means. The real limits are our resources, not the Treasury’s spreadsheet. This old household analogy,

As we remember #Aberfan, it's worth remembering that the disaster was 💯 avoidable & the NCB fought measures to compensate bereaved parents. Have we really learned the lessons? Grenfell makes me feel like we haven't. thebritishacademy.ac.uk/publishing/rev…

The Times and The Sunday Times If employers can't affort to pay a living wage they should go bust for having an unsustainable business model. Any company that pays dividends, or pays a CEO multiples >40 of the average wage, can afford to pay a living wage. Only greed & moral turpitude stand in the way.

All my career I’ve enjoyed speaking to US officials—bold, outspoken, unfettered. Not now, according to an excellent, scary Edward Luce article in today’s FT. ‘People are scared of crossing Trump’, says.

Today was the 13th anniversary of the death of #Savita. We will never forget that she died because of the Irish state’s abortion ban and being beholden to the catholic church. Maria Steen & Iona would like to take us back — but we won’t let them. #NeverAgain

I cried for this woman 13 years ago. She should have spent the intervening years living a beautiful life in Galway with her husband, watching their children grow up.
