A good reminder as we engage with colleagues too. Having to summarize our breaks for one another 10x over is exhausting at the best of times - never-mind when the summary doesn’t release any dopamine ;). Might be time to replace “How was your break?” with “So good to see you!”.

Since numbers are low, I’ll be teaching a group of students aged 11-14 I can’t fathom just treading water or babysitting so we’re going to do math - cool math Here is a video on the Monty Hall problem if any MS teachers are looking for cool one-off math youtu.be/4Lb-6rxZxx0

#7. Processing the loss of a loved one while keeping my eye on others I love who are processing the same grief. (Whoa - that was some Twitter vulnerability. Evidence that this graphic keeps it real!) Thanks for sharing Tim Cavey .

Reflecting on two different situations this week - one in the role of teacher and one as principal - when I said the right thing at the wrong time. This work never ceases to humble and refine me. I’m choosing to focus on thanks for that vs. not being gentle with myself. SCSBC

For assessment conversations: here's an example of a self-assessment tool (based on unit learning targets) that I gave to my 8th graders this morning. It needs improvement but it's a starting point. forms.gle/68aLwYiHVuYA1L… Darren Spyksma Shannon Gillespie Stacy Kaye Mr. Riley Dueck

Restorative justice in no excuses schools. Deeper learning by powerpoint. SEL in factory style education. Why do we insist on holding onto old notions of order and control, even as we try to embrace newer ideas around inquiry, self-direction and liberation?nextgenlearning.org/articles/liber…

Non-emotional redirection - yes! And sometimes a cup of water and protein-based snack do wonders for being able to slow down, reflect and make amends. Ss always look at me a little strangely when this is offered but it often changes the dynamic and settles the scene.

Wow. Just walked by MissLisa’s class and I love this: students brainstorming best ways to show proficiency for each learning 🎯. Talk about agency and ownership!

What are the stressors, unmet needs, and skill deficits that our students are experiencing? We must always remember, "Kids do well if they can!" -Dr. Ross Greene #inclusion #reframebehaviour (thanks to Kristin Wiens for creating the best visuals)

Symmetry - what we want for young learners, we need to provide for adult learners. How are we doing with this? A key concept from Jal Mehta #noiie22 NOIIE linda kaser

Just listened to the Every Square Centimetre podcast with Janice MacDonald . Thanks, Janice! Learned a few things, laughed, and felt inspired. (And got my pantry cleaned while I listened!) Win!

Finally had some time to dig into Peter Liljedah's work and WOW - so much to unpack here. Playing around with his Ch. 13 idea of giving Ss a roadmap of their learning so they can understand where to next. Collab? #sd36learn #thinkingclassroom
