Revising my lecture of yr-1 foundation math, realized I implicitly taught some CAT Also, in homework, they stuck at the equivalence class (ok, it's natrual), so they "stop at" 1-category(?) AI made computation "less important", may be time to teach them mind explosion more(?)

(Christmas gift to myself?) Our paper "Sparse Hyperparametric Itakura-Saito Nonnegative Matrix Factorization via Bi-Level Optimization" has been accepted by Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics arXiv (to be update later) arxiv.org/abs/2502.17123

Watching Sheafification of G: "Noncommutative algebra is right-wing because it annihilates radical left-ideal" Me: so Numerical linear algebra is left-wing because it pivots to the left. (Disclaimer 1: I don't give a f**k) (Disclaimer 2: picture gen by Germini)

Sem2 start next week Students from Econ, Physics ... enroll my Optimization class As an optimization researcher, I maximize my laziness (fewer exam to mark) So I try my best to scare students away by showing heavy stuffs

I am fortunate to have good PhD students. 1st brought me decision-dependent opt. 2nd brought me fiber, moduli. They expanded my vision. Happy. I failed EPSRC NIA🤬, but I thank my school for funding support for PhDs. Honestly they are stronger than I was 8/9 yrs ago. time flies.

(After spending 6 hours of brain-draining grant writing) I would rather study PDE analysis on p-adic number over the tropical semiring with Ito integral and fractional derivative over Kolmogorov space instead of writing UK-style research grant

On π day I learned something Abstract math can be so freakishly hard so a field (Representation Theory) exists whose job is to “translate” crazy algebra into linear algebra for normal dude (me) to understand As an applied analyst, this view on "WTF is algebraist doing" shocked me

Three humans in a room. Algebraic-geometry PhD student talking varieties, rings, Nullstellensatz to my visiting topology PhD student on quotients, kernels, persistent homology, bifiltration. Me (analysis supervisor): WTF you two talking — does it converge?

Reading 11pm while having conference 9am I just learned that cumulant is the coordinate of graded tensor algebra and it gives a much better explaination why 4th order cumulant kills Gaussian noise (should never read or study midnight before sleep again!!!!!!!!)
