🌊 BREACHING! 🌊 Nature's immense power at work! The #Chilcotin dam started to breach ~15 hours ago! Projected peak flows in Chilcotin River of 8000 m3/s. For reference, normal for this time of year is ~150 m3/s. 🎥 Trevor Chelsea via @WaterSHEDLab

A gushing meltwater stream on Pets #glacier, Eastern Switzerland, today. Summer melting is in full swing these days, up to the highest peaks. The brownish snow surfaces higher up (Saharan dust) still do their contribution.

1st time 15°C is broken at #Sonnblick in August (Austria, 3109m) 🔥 This is only 0.5°C within the highest temp. ever recorded at this location (11-7-2023)! The observatory has one of the longest (138 yr!) continuous temp. series at this elevation in the world 📈 wetterblog.at

Disappearance of Pizol #glacier between 2006 and 2024 - R.I.P. Yesterday's visit to the mountain once coated with white glacier ice was depressing. Dark, unstable debris, and the trickling sound of melt water from the last patches of dead ice.

Another great field day enjoying the beauty of those glaciers which still fill their bed ….others are gone. Only few snow patches left from the winter.

Unbelievably, there is at least a 40% chance of the #AMOC (Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation) collapsing within 25 years. We could be facing impacts similar to the Younger Dryas period - within the lifetimes of most people alive today. #Climate #Mitigation is Urgent.

Part of the Prémou Glacier (north face of Grande Motte, 3653 m, Vanoise massif) started to destabilize and collapse recently (late october to early Nov.) between 3000 and 3100 m! 😳😱 Thanks to @XCailhol for the info and pics! 🙏
