More evidence of the normal physiological roles of cell senescence. In an invertebrate cnidarian, senescent cells can reprogram neighbouring somatic cells into stem cells and drive whole-body regeneration. Great work by Uri Frank et al Cell Reports! cell.com/cell-reports/f…

Excited to officially start my Ph.D. journey in Elly Tanaka’s lab IMP. My goal is to contribute to the field of high-throughput genetics in the axolotl, the only four-legged vertebrate that can regenerate virtually any body part and doesn’t show classical signs of aging.

Hypersensitive axolotl mTOR kinase orchestrates regeneration via translational priming and low abundant nutrient sensing in the wound microenvironment. Inhibiting amino acid uptake and subsequent axmTOR activation prevents wound healing! nature.com/articles/s4158…

New at IMBA: Paths to Regeneration (2024) by Ella Steinbacher, inspired by André Fischer. This painting captures an extraordinary natural process in axolotls, where adult somatic cells revert to a more versatile state, enabling regeneration.

Genuine epigenetic rejuvenation in primary cells has long been the holy grail. A groundbreaking preprint reveals that over-expression of a single (secret) gene overcomes this barrier: greatly reduced age estimates across in fibroblasts and keratinocytes according to validated
