Unfortunately it's not society that is dictating where we go next but a handful of large corporations. This would be less of a problem if governments invested more in science and technology rather than getting others to do it for them!

The UK spends 1.7% GDP on research, I think this should be closer to 5%, decisions on how this should be spent made by researchers from universities and independent groups, combined with a focus on education and banning private schools. Source:(uis.unesco.org/apps/visualisa…)
