Paul Goldsmith-Pinkham's latest article is the best I've read on writing with coding agents/LLMs - whether for economics research or otherwise. The most important technique he brings up is creating a style guide for writing which learns from your own past writing. For academic

I’m going slowly through this continuous did paper by Callaway, bacon and Sant’Anna on my substack. I usually teach the parameters and the estimator but really downplay the TWFE decomposition. It sort of dawned on me that bacons decomp had made me interested in did tho.

If any good lawyer is interested, I’m glad to represent the class. I think there’s a 0% chance any jury will agree that secretly drawing in a non-uniform way is acceptable or reasonably anticipated by purchasers.

I’m really excited about this paper! Some of my work has pointed out problems in empirical work, but this one is all about new 🔧s. If you (or your referees) want to know about the mechanisms by which a treatment affects an outcome, you may be interested. A 🧵.

It's no surprise that many people who thought it wasn't cool to do well in school support Trump. Remarkably, Kennedy gets both percentage changes wrong.

IV-PPML-HDFE. We are happy to introduce an instrumental-variable Poisson pseudo-maximum likelihood estimator with high-dimensional fixed effects. We also provide a robust and user-friendly ‘ivppmlhdfe’ package for Stata and Julia. More details here 👇 ideas.repec.org/p/drx/wpaper/2…

In a world where you can simply tell Claude/Codex to "make a figure prettier" and it will do so, the excuses for making ugly data visualizations are headed to zero.
