The other day, I saw a census worker, clipboard in hand, going door to door. And I thought, she is a hero. It got me thinking about how my definition of hero has changed quite a bit in a year. Or maybe it needed to be changed.

Called my kid's school to ask where we log in for classes. Her school said "someone will call you tomorrow." I replied, "but that's the first day of school." I was told, "a teacher will call you" and then she quickly hung up. Anger doesn't even begin to describe my mood.

So glad to see this story: Politicians on both sides proudly saying, "I'm going to pick a woman." Would they say, "I'm going to pick a man?" The idea that picking a woman appeals to women is patronizing. Just pick a woman. Don't declare it. nytimes.com/2020/09/23/us/…

I miss going to the museum and studying the brush strokes and angle of light in paintings. I'm amazed how this story captured that "up-close" experience by simply zooming in and letting me almost touch my screen. Adding this to my bag of inspiration. nytimes.com/interactive/20…

Academics like to joke about hard-to-understand titles of studies. Why not go simple so people aren't turned off? Like this study on the personality traits of people who believe in conspiracy theories: “Looking Under the Tinfoil Hat." nytimes.com/2020/09/28/hea…

Shooting portraits of a celebrity is already nerve-racking. But try doing it remotely and recruiting the actor's kids to help you. Really impressed with Devin Oktar Yalkin's creative approach. nytimes.com/2020/10/29/ins…

I'm going to say it: Is it possible to be more productive without Slack? More time to write, think, brainstorm without interruptions.

I take pride in my search-savvy skills but finding a vaccine appointment for my eligible parents has challenged me like nothing before. Really tired of hopeful clicks and then I get this:

Shout-out to three talented Timeswomen (Juliet Macur Carla Correa Maggie Astor) covering gymnastics. I couldn't stop looking at my phone for updates. nytimes.com/live/2021/07/2…

Today, I re-entered the world after two weeks indoors with a sick household. We made it. When I took a sip of hot coffee from my favorite bodega this morning, I said to myself, "everything is going to be all right." Find those moments of reassurance. Mine is a bodega coffee.

If I had commuted to work, my day would have started: Me: Sorry I missed the meeting. I missed my train, because my kid wanted to pick up leaves. Editor: Must have been a lot of leaves. — Working remotely, we collected leaves and I arrived to work on time. It's the little things.

Come work at The New York Times. This job has a little bit of everything: coaching others on storytelling tools; building newsroom programs; working closely with our product teams and other desks; managing projects; and more. nytimes.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/NYT/job/New-Yo…

Something I never thought I would tell my kid: "Wear your mask. It will keep your face warm." (Among other things.) It was 15 degrees.

Ever dreamed of owning your own newspaper? I have. Talk about making a community impact. In many cases, it’s not that community newspapers are dying, it’s that they can’t find their next owner. If you’re serious, there is training for potential buyers: poynter.org/business-work/…

Started my morning off thinking, "I'm a pretty good umpire." Then the yelling started. "Come on, that was a strike. Right over the plate." This game gets harder as you go: nytimes.com/interactive/20…
