I hope you all can spare some time to read this moving piece by my colleague Clarissa Eaton. She was recently "non-reappointed" (that means laid off, to those who don't speak the lingo) UMass Boston. Please read and share widely insidehighered.com/advice/2020/05…

Retweeting from 2016: relevant more than ever today as more and more NTT find themselves among the ranks of the unemployed.

The claim that #UMassBoston is slated to “perish” is based on erroneous data: "average undergraduate tuition" is NOT $24,067 but $15,440 for in-state students (minus Pell Grants, merit & other aid) #Profgalloway inflates UMB tuition by 64%. Shoddy research should be retracted.

#Profgalloway inflates #UMassBoston tuition by $8,627 or 56% (of $15,440). His table appears to average in-state and out-of-state tuition, weighing them equally, a distortion that will artificially bump up private universities relative to public ones vis a vis "value."

Massachusetts has no shortage of smart software developers. And on Greater Boston, they wanted to let the Gov. know there's no need to go to Maryland to find solutions to the state's vax tech mess: wgbh.org/news/local-new…

At best, vaccinetime and other vaccine finders just add to the general anxiety of finding a vaccine in a situation of scarcity. They are a false solution. At worst, they amplify inequity.
