At Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez today for APCISS-2 in Chile, the campus is so beautiful on its elevation and internal architecture . Had an amazing talk by Elsa Pastor on fire risk management at the WUI. Always interesting to learn more about wildfires. 🇨🇱🏔️🔥🌳

We are just finishing a study on the average charring rate of timber in fire. This is an important quantity for the engineering design of mass timber buildings such that they don't collapse during a fire. In this plot we see that EC5 standard underpredict it for many cases.

We just published a paper on methods to predict the charring rate of wood for structural calculations against fire. Note: we used AI, of course, its the fashion, and compared it to statistical methods. Guess what? AI is not really better but it is not worse either. Predicting
