Topical report by Aslı Atay and Trinley Walker on how employers can help workers during the cost-of-living crisis. Employers say they want to support workers but few have implemented measures to help. There are some fascinating case studies of worker and employer experiences.

While many politicians are critical of benefit sanctions, few are talking about serious reform of the system of conditionality that drives them My new NEF paper argues that conditionality can only achieve compliance, when what we need is engagement. Here's why that matters...šŸ§µ

It looks like thereā€™s big news on incapacity benefits coming next week, with the government consulting on changing the Work Capability Assessment (WCA). Quick thread to provide some context on this:

Great article by Tom Pollard. If Labour do get into power, they will have to lead a shift in the public debate away from the negative framing around welfare claimants otherwise any move towards a system based on genuine engagement will be difficult to pull off politically

Business orgs are calling for Labour to water down planned employment reforms, citing the damage they could do to UK competitiveness. Hereā€™s why Labour must resist these calls and focus on supporting a healthier and more productive workforce.

Last year, we started this research thinking it would be a one-time thing. But even though inflation has gone down, prices for energy and food are still high. This hits certain groups hard, like low-income families and workers structurally disadvantaged in the labour market.(2/6)

As we work longer, do our leave policies reflect these changes? My research with Aman Navani and Alice Martin, published today, surveys employers & analyses labour force data to reveal a worrying inequality in time off that risks deepening the UK health crisis.šŸ§µ(1/9)

Our latest The Work Foundation research using longitudinal data from the Understanding Society survey questions the narrative that insecure work is a stepping stone to more secure work. Insecure workers are more likely to be trapped in insecurity or fall out of work four years on.
