Helping my Tulane kid move this weekend. Great food. Some chaos. Lots of summer heat. And conversations all day long. All the good stuff.

Shout out to professors who know the names of their undergrad students & buy them doughnuts & coffee when they run into them in the doughnut shop. โ™ฅ๏ธ

I get a lot of emails about my podcast, and this might be my favourite comment so far. "You and your guests have inspired me to go back to learn more math...you and your guests make math seem fun, challenging, and doable if you put your mind to it."

here's a primer on math assessment in MTSS (spoiler alert- there's not ORF equivalent). We use mastery measurement CBM. Here's how to do it. Too much to tweet, but we know a lot about how to measure in math. springmath.org/resources#5588โ€ฆ

So glad this paper is finally online! We found no differences in math anxiety across overt and covert timing conditions but students reported higher math anxiety on complex problems compared to simple problems.

Thanks for having me on your podcast Kate Winn. When teachers understand the science of instruction they can engineer their instructional environments for better success in reading and math.

๐Ÿš— Season 3 wraps up with a jam-packed episode featuring Amanda VanDerHeyden. Kate and Amanda have a wide-ranging conversation about the science of learning and human behaviour - how do children learn new things? From the instructional hierarchy to incremental rehearsal, don't miss

"When someone promotes an idea that lacks scientific coherence & merit & when it is systematically disproven again & again I believe [they] have a moral obligation as a scientist, as a thought leader to look at that and say, am I doing more harm than good?" Amanda VanDerHeyden on math

Excellent piece, Todd. Such a testament to the more pragmatic concerns of parents who want their children to gain the academic skills needed to think critically & thrive in life. Well-done.

My longest and possibly most important ๐Ÿงต to date. Educators and educational leaders need to hear Amanda VanDerHeyden discussing the science of learning on the latest episode IDA Ontario's Reading Road Trip. Here are some highlights - which quote resonates with you most?
