When it comes to industry "vs" academia, I would not pay attention to any of the extreme positions. The decision for most will rest on many factors clustered somewhere in the middle ground. Reality is a lot more complicated than is sometimes suggested. Do what is best for YOU.

Let's foster an environment where everyone feels free to admit their mistakes, share vulnerabilities, and be human. We must break free of the toxic silencing of our real selves. I see great progress on Twitter, much less so in university departments.

Reminder that you don't necessarily know all of the work someone is doing on anything from their Twitter account. Some people share and some don't, for a variety of reasons -- respect that.

Some of the "best" lectures ever heard are distinctly ableist, how wonderful. University departments, please provide better disability and ableism training for your staff.

The number of academics that just don't know (or perhaps don't even care) about student needs on any level is deeply alarming.

In my experience, universities take MONEY more seriously than well-being, sexual abuse, discrimination, racism, mental health and nepotism combined. Academic Chatter™
