'SUVs and vans with a hood height greater than 40 inches are about 45% more likely to cause fatalities in pedestrian crashes than cars and other vehicles with a hood height of 30 inches or less and a sloping profile.'

This is a big part of the problem on Connecticut Avenue - businesses over estimating the need for parking - DDOT did two Cleveland Park studies & both showed that 80% of customers to CT Ave businesses are walking and only 10% are driving!

This is brilliant.

That elevated highway rendering is just what Mexico City looks like btw (and traffic is still terrible).

And the bit about the highway through the zoo - motorists seeing park spaces as they zoom by really is the National Park Service philosophy about DC parks

With the gutting of the Post’s local newsroom, shuttering of DCist, and majority of quality substantive stories behind paywalls, crime feels like it’s just about the only beat left for the public en masse to consume. It’s awful not just for individual readers but for society.

New York City, which has much lower crime rates than DC, is a good example of how incremental improvement over time can make a real difference.

New York isn't perfect but getting even halfway to their crime rates would be a massive improvement for DC. (1/
