Women are the backbone of agriculture in Somalia. Safiyo’s story inspires me and brings hope to many of us. Resilience, self-reliance, and support for women farmers—that’s what we need in Somalia. Happy Somali Farmer’s Day & #InternationalDayofRuralWomen.

As we mark #WorldFoodDay, I see hope in the Somali women leading their communities through climate challenges, using innovation to grow food and secure their future. Food security is possible in Somalia, and we won’t stop until every person has access to the food they need.

US funding has been the backbone of food assistance in Somalia, supporting World Food Programme to cover 90% of lifesaving hunger needs. If implemented, these cuts would force WFP to stop assistance by next month, leaving 620,000 people at risk of severe hunger.

As drought in the north forces families to sell their assets or survive on one meal a day, conflict in the south is displacing hundreds of thousands. World Food Programme is responding to the growing emergency needs, but funding gaps are forcing to leave the vast majority without any support.

📚🍽️WFP Somalia runs the largest school meals programme in #Somalia, helping children stay in school and boosting local economies. But as needs soar, WFP had to cut the programme’s reach by half — putting education and daily meals at risk for thousands of children.
