Evidence shows risks increase with interventions. But trying to force ‘normal birth’ in environment which works against physiological birth also introduces dystocia. Supportive birth environment + continuity of carer reduces risks. Whole system needs change& Need more staff 1/4

If birth physiology truly supported in the first place, I'm convinced there'd be lot less ‘need’ for intervention.Human physiology design= quiet, safe feeling, mobile birth, using instinct.Bright, noisy room, strangers&lithotomy=antithesis of nature=failure to progress/dystocia.2/4

EFM used despite masses of evidence of no benefit&causing harm. Early IOL used despite last 10 UK Confidential Enquiry reports (2004-2016), consistently showg that risk of stillbirth &neonatal death is lower for mothers who birth beyond 42 weeks than for all who birth at term.3/4

If docs and midwives trained together, I'm convinced there’d be less "us vs them attitude; better support for each other; and better care for women and babies. Less "too much too soon v too little to late'.More 'appropriate care on time'.Midwife shortages=danger. Need⬆️staff. 4/4

If we supported birth physiology fully, and midwives&doctors collaborated and supported each other - oh how different maternity care would be ▶️ Better outcomes for women/females, babies & happier staff. The system needs changing. ❤️#Midwives

The Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson is a destructive setback for ob-gyns and patients. However, we’ll continue with unwavering resolve to support all people who struggle against interference with the patient–physician relationship.

The decision in the US is a devastating blow against women’s rights and human rights. A shocking move into the dark ages unwomen.org/en/news-storie…

In April 2022 I was an NHS nurse in a really bad place: • Experiencing flashbacks • Feeling unable to cope • Having nightmares • Extremely anxious 3 months on, I'm a completely different person. • I'm kinder • I have clarity • I prioritise myself Here's what I learned:

And here we go with the implications of overturning Roe v Wade. When women have no value and are seen as just a vessel by a patriarchy that puts no value on half the population, dystopian realities jump from the pages of fiction. #ENOUGH #HandmaidsTale

Nursing staff have been given another real-terms pay cut leaving an experienced nurse over £1,000 worse off. Enough is enough. Eligible members working for NHS England will be balloted on industrial action via post. Update your details: bit.ly/327nskV #FairPayForNursing

Why commission an independent review and not accept the recommendations in full? Nearly half of all correspondence I’ve received is from women still suffering from pelvic mesh implants. I will address this tomorrow at the Patient Safety Congress Patient Safety Congress & Awards #meshredress

If you show frustration or anger through: sighing, giving the silent treatment, or making sarcastic comments—this is a passive aggressive communication style. You might say “I’m fine” when asked if you’re upset. Here’s why 🧵:

I have carried lots of deceased children down the corridor and no one ever knew. I have been to more children’s funerals than adults… the job isn’t a 9-5, it’s stays with you all the time. #NursesStrike #SupportTheNurses #RCNStrike #nurses

Dan is my friend. He is an overseas nurse in the UK from Kenya. He works in one of the Trusts where a strike is due next year by the The RCN should the negotiations with Rishi Sunak and his government hit another snag. I have just been on the phone with him and Dan is resigning

When I was 17, I sought a labiaplasty because of misinformation published by doctors online. My labia minora were completely amputated and my clitoris was damaged. I determined to solve the systemic negligence around vulvas that caused this. Here is what I have changed. 🧵

Talk about headstrong! 💪 Here’s something you don’t see everyday. As newborns, babies are generally born without the neck strength to lift their heads independently. Indeed, this is a developmental milestone commonly unlocked between 2-4 months. But don’t tell that to this
