@queertypes I wonder if defining the range to be the actual expected image would help with testing.

@queertypes Then you could verify that you have a test returning each expected output. That’s of course is not thorough, but a start.

@queertypes To test paths within a function, mybe have each path return an Action, and then a separate interpreter Action to actual effect.

@queertypes ah, yeah, I’m thinking in Scala here :) I know less about how to actually do things like this in Java...

A function should have one of two jobs. (1) return an Action which will later be interpreted or (2) interpret an Action.

Only then can we separate intent from consequences.

General rule of thumb: You just can't reasonably test effects. Model EVERYTHING as data and convert to effects at the very last minute.
