Was just sitting at home on a Friday night about to read the draft chapter of a PhD student but I'm tempted instead just to dream of rich asynchronous digital activities.

Higher ed in Australia is in such a sad, sorry state. This week, we've heard that some universities are getting rid of lectures while others are moving to 75-person "workshops". Many unis are mass firing sessionals. I despair for our students and the future of universities.

I've done both and find certain advantages in online teaching. But dumping face-to-face lectures entirely? I don't think so. It eliminates a key element of human interaction that can't be replicated in a digital space. #HigherEd

this is bonkers - and I know first hand how hard it is to juggle in-person university attendance with work, kids, life... But regardless, teaching at this level, LEARNING at this level, demands more than online information regurgitation ☹️

Paying staff correctly is a basic issue that should be GUARANTEED. Surely VCs (other relevant leaders too) should accept a small amount of responsibility for this basic function and says “we didn’t do the job, we should not take a pay rise his year”. #accountableVCs

This is a terrible idea Higher education is community. It is conversation. Killing this will make advanced ed less appealing to young people. It will also kill one of the true remaining institutions of community life. Why would you do that? Everyone alone in their room society

That Charles Sturt Uni leadership has doubled down on its support for VC Renee Leon and ignored the Robodebt RC and APSC findings of misrepresentation is as unsurprising as it is egregious. Exemplifies unaccountable and out of touch uni governance bodies. Leon must resign.
