Lebanon and Hezbollah specifically has become much more important for Iran. It can be argued that supporting and strengthening the group is now an Iranian National Security necessity against a far more aggressive Israel and a potential Salafi-Jihadi threat emanating from Syria.

Given Hezbollahs increased importance for Iran's national security an opportunity may exist for the Trump administration to get some nuclear concessions from Tehran in exchange for abandoning the project of dismantling Hezbollah.
